you don’t! you just wanna learn!
TW FOR RAPE, ASSAULT, ETC
- porn commodifies sex. it tells people that it can be bought and sold, with women acting as the parcel it’s being carried in. this is extremely problematic in that it tells men that women are objects designed to get them to their orgasm at whatever means they seem fit. it leaves women as secondary participants, and renders them to serve male demand
- it gives unrealistic expectations for what sex is like, how women look, and how sex works. it tells men that they are the main receivers and that their orgasms are the priority.
- it furthers racism. white women are the norm in porn, while women of color have been turned into a fetish (i.e. their own categories of “Asian”, “ebony”, “European”, etc). WoC are reduced to being a “special interest” and a “kink”.
- it promotes violence against women. rape, “noncon”, gangbang, bdsm, verbal assault, physical assault, and so so much more are all categories of porn. they are also the most popular. people claim this has to do with kinks that are not related to rape culture/violence culture, but they are wrong. kinks do not exist in a vacuum and are no immune to being influenced by patriarchal ideals. the availability of this kind of porn tells men that this is the normal thing to get turned on by and it’s totally okay to find the sounds of crying, gagging, begging, and pain arousing. the titles are even promoting rape culture. “b-tch gets gagged by huge cock” and “tiny tits has cum dumped on her”. that’s not empowering, that’s degrading. using slurs to describe women and disgusting, crude verbs is all kinds of wrong.
- it promotes the sexualization of young girls. “teen” remains one of the most popular categories. this glamorizes statutory rape and young girls. even if they’re “18”, they’re still portrayed to be younger than that
- revenge porn. naked pics and sex tapes are uploaded without consent to get back at ex gfs and ex wives. “homemade” provides no proof that the women even knew it was on the internet.
this is just a short list of what is wrong with porn. it’s not well articulated, sorry. I’m literally on m phone, on my bed.
check out my anti porn tag on my radfem blog for more resources. trigger warning, of course.
